for over a month since I updated the blog, since no progress was made as far as building is concerned. Although this does not mean that the activity has stopped. As we discussed in the previous post, we are requesting budgets, looking for materials (windows, doors, water tank, soil, bricks, insulation, roofing, etc.) and contacting the installers (masons, electricians, plumbers, etc). The difficulty of finding organic materials we add to the difficulty of coming within a reasonable cost, which is proving more complicated.
Our great challenge is not just us a sustainable housing, but to make a model home and to serve as references for other projects. You do not just have to take into account the environmental impact of the building, but also its functionality, comfort, cost and aesthetics. It would not do to make a totally sustainable housing, but because of its high cost may not be copied and ecological building systems that can not be used widely, as well as we could not afford it financially. So we had to rule out using some of the materials and the installation of some systems because of their high cost or because of their low functionality and comfort in use.
Hopefully in a couple of weeks we can continue the construction. In future blog entries will discuss the different materials and systems we use.
